I left food in my garden and captured something beautiful. New feel-good wildlife video just dropped!

A backyard photography adventure

Hi everyone! I hope you’re all doing well.

Here in Sweden, weโ€™re in the midst of spring-winterโ€”a unique time of year often called โ€œthe fifth season.โ€ The days are slowly growing warmer, while the nights still hold onto winterโ€™s chill.

Itโ€™s a gentle, transitional season that eases us out of the long, dark winter and prepares us for the endless light of Scandinavian spring and summer. After 6 to 7 months of freezing cold and dim days, this slow awakening is not just welcomeโ€”itโ€™s essential. Coming back to life takes time, and this season allows to do just that.

This year I have been longing for spring more than ever! As a passionate nature lover and botany enthusiast, I eagerly await the return of the forestโ€™s vibrant greens and the first signs of life breaking through the soil. One of my favorite early spring blooms is the enchanting Blรฅsippa (Hepatica), pictured belowโ€”a delicate yet resilient flower that proudly announces the arrival of Swedish spring.

Before diving fully into the new adventures of the bright season, there’s still one last little winter project Iโ€™d love to share with you.

If youโ€™ve been following my previous posts, you probably know that during the colder months, I make it a habit to help the forest animals by leaving food in my garden. It’s my small way of giving back to nature when it needs a little extra kindness.

This winter, I decided to take things one step further. For 7 days straight, I set up a camera and captured every visitor who came by in search of a meal. I was curious to see just how many different species might pass through in such a short span of timeโ€”right outside my window. ๐ŸฆŒ๐Ÿฟ๏ธ๐ŸฆŠ

The results were both surprising and heartwarming. I saw familiar faces and unexpected guests, and each encounter filled me with a sense of quiet joy. These fleeting moments were so magical that I decided to turn them into a short videoโ€”to share with you the beauty of these gentle interactions with nature.

๐ŸŒฟ The video is now live on my YouTube channelโ€”you can watch it here. ๐ŸŒฟ

I wonโ€™t give anything away, but I promise itโ€™s a feel-good watch! So take a moment, settle in, and enjoy a peaceful journey in my garden filled with grateful little visitors.

Thank you so much for reading, and Iโ€™ll see you soon with a fresh spring adventure!

Warmly,
Simona

Simona D'Auria

Hi! My name is Simona and I am a photographer and an illustrator in love with the natural world.

I live in Sweden in a small village on the forest hills, where I moved a few years ago leaving behind the busy city of London to pursue my artistic activity. โ€‹This has been a long time dream that I eventually managed to fulfil. I have never regretted it!โ€‹โ€‹

Nature is my only place to be, hiking my way to explore it and photography is one of the means I use to record the fantastic stories I am so lucky to witness during my excursions. Many of these stories also turn into graphics or illustrations.
